Student Days in Colorado Springs

Day 1

  • Tour the U.S. Olympic Training Complex which includes a fifteen-minute film, Hall of Fame Display, Olympic Pathway, and a guided walking tour of the training facilities.
  • Spend time at the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center and world famous Garden of the Gods Park.
  • A lunch stop option at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post, Colorado’s largest and oldest gift shop and Southwest Art Gallery, which includes the Balanced Rock Café.
  • Next it is time for adventure and entertainment at the Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs. Two tour options are available.
  • Stop in unique, downtown Manitou Springs and visit the arcade located in the heart of downtown.

Day 2

  • Take the 9:20 am train to the top of Pikes Peak, “America’s Mountain” on the Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway Depot.
  • Lunch in Old Colorado City and enjoy the three blocks of specialty shops
  • There are multiple options for ways groups can spend the afternoon which include a tour of the Air Force Academy and the Western Museum of Mining and Industry; a trip to Chapel Hills Mall which includes shopping, a rock climbing wall, ice arena, and movie theater; Cheyenne Mountain Zoo with over 500 different animals and 146 different species, 50 of which are endangered, followed by a trip to Seven Falls; or visit several of the exciting attractions that offer a variety of fun activities such as Joyrides Family Fun Center, Laser Quest, or Splat Masters Paintball Field.
Day 3

  • Option 1:
    • Stop at the May Natural History Museum of the Tropics where visitors will see over seven thousand of the world’s most beautiful and unusual invertebrates.
    • Next visit the Museum of Space Exploration which is located on the same site.
    • Next up is the Dinosaur Depot educational center and museum has paleontologists on the premise working on fossils from the Garden Park area.
    • Take a glimpse back into time at the fascinating frontier town of old Colorado, Buckskin Joe Frontier Town & Railway, the movie set for many of Hollywood’s great westerns. Enjoy a tasty lunch, pan for gold, go horseback riding, visit the region’s largest gift shop, and ride the scenic 30-minute railway.
  • Option 2:
    • All Day Group Package: Student groups can take advantage of the Cables/Planks/Rails/Rapids Package which includes the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, home of the world’s highest suspension bridge, and a spectacular ride aboard the Royal Gorge Route Railroad through the Royal Gorge Canyon.
Day 4

  • Just 45 minutes from Colorado Springs visit the historic districts of Cripple creek & Victor.
  • Take the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad and enjoy a scenic, 4 mile round-trip into yesteryear.
  • Stop at the Cripple Creek District Museum and see a variety of exhibits unique to the mining history of the area that was once the site of the world’s greatest gold camp.
  • Be sure to stop at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine which offers an educational experience as the group ascends 1,000 feet into the gold mine
  • Next visit Florissant Fossil Bes where visitors can hike in mountain meadows amongst ancient, petrified stumps of giant sequoias and see the delicate remains of flora and fauna trapped in gray shale.
  • On the way back to Colorado Springs stop at one of the US Forest Service National Parks such as Mueller State Park. There are hiking trails which provide an outdoor adventure on the west side of the Pikes Peak.
